The Mere Golf Resort and Spa’s flagship golfing event drives home nearly £10,000 for charities.
Celebrity golfers lined up yesterday to compete in a charity golfing event at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa to raise money for some of the North West’s most notable charities. Cricketing legends, Michael Vaughn and David Lloyd led the teams at The Sportsman’s Golf Classic to raise just under £10,000 for both The Christie Hospital and The Harold Riley Foundation. The day was a roaring success and received excellent feedback from all attendees. The Mere has now committed to repeat the event next year, as one of the golfing highlights of 2013 for The Mere.

“The whole team worked hard to ensure all the different components of this golfing hospitality event came together and I’m delighted that the event was such a success. It was an immensely proud day for the resort and everyone was pleased to raise these funds for charity. It was a showcase of our championship golf capabilities and we’ve already decided to hold the event again in 2014,” commented Joe Gates, Director of Golf, The Mere Golf Resort and Spa.
The Sportsman’s Golf Classic event was a brand new event for 2013 and open to all. Following the day on the golf course, there was a full evening programme which included a presentation from the Golf Day with Captain, Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd, as well as a charity auction which included a range of prizes on offer, donated by Srixon Sports Europe, Galvin Green, The Mere and other sources.
The resort has expanded its golf service and guest offering, now boasting its own concierge service and tailored play packages. It has introduced a range of golfing packages for members, starting from only £4 per day. Members have also created a new Twitter hashtag #truecourse giving golfers opportunity to promote why they choose The Mere as their golf course of choice.
