The Mere’s team of nine competes in the Cheshire based event
A team from Cheshire’s luxury resort, The Mere Golf Resort and Spa joined over 800 competitors for the North West Triathlon which kicked off in Nantwich yesterday morning. Co-owners Mark Boler and Gary Corbett, together with Head of Golf Operations, Joe Gates led Team Mere’s group of nine to tackle the 500 metre swim, 20 km Cycle and a 5 km run.
“Having completed my first triathlon in June, I was determined to get a team together from The Mere to compete in this event. The team did a fantastic job and overall we really did ourselves proud! I was pleased I managed to knock eight minutes off my own personal time and completed the triathlon in 1 hour and 20 minutes,” commented Mark Boler founder and co-owner of the resort.
“It was a fantastic event to be part of and for my first triathlon; I was really pleased with my performance of 1 hour 37 minutes,” commented The Mere’s co-owner Gary Corbett. “We definitely want to compete in the event next year to improve on our scores and also and get together a bigger Team Mere!” Corbett added.

“It really was a tremendous day, one of the best experiences of my life, but absolutely freezing in the morning when I started. My swim went fantastically well, with my time being the 17th fastest of the whole event. My run was also fairly strong, but unfortunately my lack of training on the bike and my over exuberance in the pool took its toll on me – hopefully I have learnt my lesson, and I am looking forward to entering future events as I think I have the bug!” commented Joe Gates, Golf Operations Manager, The Mere Golf Resort & Spa.
The triathlon kicked off at the outdoor pool in Nantwich where competitor’s completed their 500m swim followed by a 20km cycle past Alveston Hall, through the Cheshire countryside, ending up back at the centre of Nantwich, concluding with a 5km run on the grass track at Barony Park Pavilion.
